The 1,0 mm spark plug gap of the 1.4/1.6 Duratec engines was only prescribed by Ford for a short time. Unfortunately this gap size is still recommended by many spark plug manufacturers/suppliers while Ford changed it back to the original 1,3 mm after a very short time and later on to 1,2 mm.

The confusion arises due to the engines prior to Duratec being called Zetec too, so you could have a Ford with a Zetec engine and any trim level, including Zetec.
